WCB has a history of abuse against long time claim holders, including malpractice by WCB Doctors, Denying claims without reason, and stalking injured workers. The WCB in Edmonton has a billion dollar surplus of moneys from this behavior and has been caught rewarding caseworkers for denying claims. Another Abused Injured Worker in Newfoundland

Shirley Ryan, who after seven operations to repair her damaged foot, had to have her leg amputated. Not a very good outcome for Ms. Ryan. What adds to her trauma is the fact WHSCC in Newfoundland are delaying providing her with a wheelchair ramp so she can leave her house to attend therapy sessions etc… This is the way WHSCC and all other workers compensation boards in Canada operate. When will Canadian workers wake up to the fact that what was promised to them by governments in Canada, Federal and Provincial, is not there for them when they need it most. This is another case of psychologically abusing an injured person for no reason other than to cause more distress in the injured workers life. When will WCB’s in Canada realize it is more pofitable, not to mention humane, to help a person heal and return them to function? Instead the abuse lasts sometimes for years, even decades. Unfortunately some of us injured workers cannot take the pain and added abuse inflicted on them by these actions and suicide is the end result. Let us hope Ms. Ryan is not abused to that point.

Since 1915 when the Workers Compensation scheme started in Canada with a promise to provide wage loss and medical care if injured workers forgo the right to sue the corporation, injured workers have been dieing in pain and poverty. It is a no fault system guaranteeing medical care and wage loss no matter who caused the accident, employee or corporation. This was known as the “Historic Compromise”. Unfortunately for the injured workers, over time more rights were removed without their knowledge or consent. When the Canada Health Act was introduced in 1938 guaranteeing medical care and rights for Canadian citizens, at the same time they excluded “injured workers” from these rights and protections. The Workers Compensation Boards have the final say on your medical care. To add further trauma to the patient, the Provincial governments that make up the country of Canada barred any action for criminal activity against the patient through Workers Compensation Act’s. This has left the patient completely vulnerable to fraud of all sorts committed against them. Denied medical care for painful conditions, forced into poverty, denied retraining, loss of all property and rights and freedoms, the injured worker commits suicide to end their suffering. In New York, there is no opportunity for a petition drive. It is important to find another way to get the attention of legislators regarding workers compensation.
